The question
There's a job offer I haven't answered. It's been almost three weeks. This is the job I've wanted since my twenties and now it's here and I just keep not dealing with it. My husband asks and I say I'm still thinking about it, which isn't really true. I don't know if this counts as a question. I guess I want to know why I can't just answer the email.
You asked why you cannot answer the email. You can. Your hands work, the reply is four sentences, and you have written harder ones before lunch. So the question underneath is a different one, and I think you already know its shape, or you would not have wondered whether it counted.The card that came up for you is the Two of Swords. A woman seated with her back to the water, blindfolded, a sword held level in each hand, crossed over her heart. People read her as indecision. Look at her arms. Two blades held out and crossed and perfectly balanced. That is not rest. Anyone who has held anything at that angle knows how fast it begins to burn, and she is spending enormous strength keeping two things weighing exactly the same. The blindfold is not something that happened to her. It is tied. She reached up and tied it, because there is something behind her that she is not willing to turn and look at.Three weeks. I keep returning to the three weeks. You describe them as nothing much, a stretch of not-yet. They are the most eloquent thing you have told me.There is a thing that happens in a glass of water. You add salt and it dissolves, and you add more and it dissolves, and you continue well past the point where any of it should still be disappearing, and it disappears anyway. The water holds far more than it can hold, and from the outside it looks exactly like water. Nothing is happening. Everything has already happened. Then one grain falls in, or someone jars the glass, and the whole of it goes to crystal at once, faster than the eye can follow. It did not decide in that instant. It had been decided for a long time, and was only waiting to be disturbed.You said you are not really thinking about it, and I believe you. You are supersaturated. What you are waiting for is permission to be disturbed.You have wanted this since your twenties, and a person who wants something that long does not merely want it. They become someone who wants it. That wanting has been a companion, an organizing principle, a way of knowing what to do on a Tuesday. The moment you answer that email, with either word, that person is finished. Yes finishes her, because she arrives and has nowhere further to go. No finishes her outright. Either way there is a death on your hands, and you have not held the funeral, and some honest animal part of you knows better than to walk into a room where a funeral is owed and unpaid.That is not fear. That is grief, standing very still so you will not notice it.Your U2, then. With or Without You is built on four chords in the bass that never change, not once, across the whole song. Everything above them climbs and thickens and strains, the guitar holds a single note past the point where a note should be able to continue, and underneath it all the same four chords go around exactly as they did in the first bar. The song works because nothing at the bottom ever moves.Bach built the same machine. The Chaconne, at the end of the second violin partita: one short harmonic ground, repeated, with sixty-four variations raised over it. It is thought, though not proven, that he wrote it for his first wife, who died while he was travelling and was buried before he got home. Grief written over a ground that will not move.You have spent three weeks varying everything above the ground. Telling your husband you are thinking. Rereading. Composing replies you do not send. The ground has not moved once, and the ground is not the email.Ignatius of Loyola taught his people not to decide by arguing with themselves. Live inside one answer for a full day, move through the ordinary hours as though it were already done, then live inside the other, and notice afterward not which day was more exciting but which one left you more yourself. Not the fantasy version. The Wednesday version, with its laundry and its small irritations. And on the third day, do not ask which life you want. Ask which one you were already grieving.The blindfold is not on the table, and no one else put it there. It is in your hands. Which means the untying is something you already know how to do. You have only been calling it by a harder name.

Vespera is operated by Jennifer Cronin, a sole proprietor based in California. This notice explains what personal information Vespera collects, why, where it is kept, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
Your name and email address.When you request a reading. Everything you provide on the intake form. This includes your date, time and place of birth, and the question or situation you choose to describe. You decide how much to share; nothing beyond your name, email and the question itself is required for a reading to be written.When you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe. Vespera receives your name, email address, and a record that a payment succeeded. Vespera never sees or stores your card number. Stripe handles card details under its own privacy policy.When you write to us. The contents of your emails, including any follow-up questions about a reading.Vespera does not buy personal information from anyone, and does not collect information about you from other sources.
Why we collect it
To write your reading, to send it to you, to answer follow-up questions, to take payment, and to keep the record that allows a later reading to build on an earlier one.That last purpose is worth stating plainly, because it is unusual. Continuity is what Vespera offers. Readings are kept so that when you return, the reading you receive is informed by what you have already shared rather than starting from nothing. This is a feature of the service, and it means your information is retained rather than discarded after each reading.
Where it is kept
Google Workspace and Google Drive — intake responses, readings, and correspondence, in a private account accessible only to Jennifer Cronin.
Google Forms and Google Sheets — form responses.
Anthropic — readings are written using Anthropic's Claude models. Your intake and the reading itself are processed there under Anthropic's own privacy policy.
Stripe — payment records.
Carrd — the website itself.
Cloudflare — anonymous website traffic statistics. No personal records are held here.
These providers process information on Vespera's behalf under their own privacy policies. No one else has access to your records, and your information is never sold, rented, or shared for advertising.
How long we keep it
Readings and intake responses are kept for as long as you remain a client, and afterwards unless you ask us to delete them — because the value of the record is that it persists. If you stop being a client, your record is not deleted automatically; it simply stops growing.You can ask for it to be deleted at any time. See below.
How a reading is written
Vespera is built with AI. Readings are composed using Anthropic's Claude models, which means what you provide on the intake form — including your birth details and the question you describe — is processed by Anthropic as part of writing your reading, under Anthropic's own privacy policy.The account used to write readings is set so that conversations are not used to train Anthropic's models. That setting was changed on 22 September 2026. Readings written before that date may have been included in model training under Anthropic's consumer terms then in force.
What you can ask for
Write to [email protected] and you may ask Vespera to:Tell you what is held about you, and provide a copy.
Correct anything inaccurate.
Delete your records. This is permanent: once deleted, a future reading cannot draw on anything you previously shared.
Stop emailing you.Requests are answered within 30 days. There is no charge, and asking will never affect the service you receive.California residents have these rights under state law, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Vespera does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Your reading is yours
The reading Vespera writes for you is yours. Keep it, share it, or quote it wherever you like.Vespera keeps a copy, because that is what lets the next reading build on the last. Nothing from your reading or your intake is shown to anyone else or published without your written permission.
Cookies and analytics
This website is built on Carrd. It stores a small amount of data on your device from visitvespera.com itself, which is used to make the page work. There is no advertising network and no tracking pixel, and nothing here follows you to other websites.
Since 28 August 2026 the site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It records that a page was viewed, which page, where the visit came from, and the country, browser and device type of the request. It does not identify you and does not build a profile of your browsing. Like any web request, it involves your IP address, which Cloudflare uses to work out the country and to filter out automated traffic; Vespera never sees it.
Vespera still does not know who visits the site — only who chooses to leave their name.
Children
Vespera is intended for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information, write to [email protected] and it will be deleted.
Security
Information is held in password-protected accounts with two-factor authentication enabled, and is accessible only to Jennifer Cronin. No system is perfectly secure, and Vespera does not claim otherwise. What we can say is that access is limited to one person, the records are not shared with anyone, and there is no marketing database.

A reading offers reflection and perspective. It is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. That is set out separately wherever readings are offered, and nothing in this notice changes it.

The Vespertine Membership is month to month. There is no contract and no minimum term.You can cancel at any time by writing to [email protected]. Your membership then runs to the end of the month you have already paid for, including any readings still owed to you in that month, and does not renew. There is no cancellation fee, and part-months are not refunded.The First Reading and single readings are one-off purchases. There is nothing to cancel.Cancelling does not delete your records. They are kept, so that if you return, the reading you receive is informed by what you have already shared. You can ask for them to be deleted at any time — see the privacy notice.
What it costs

It is $250, once — the deepest reading Vespera writes, and the one everything after is built on. It arrives within a couple of days, often sooner.Join within thirty days of that reading and your first month costs nothing. The Vespertine Membership is $200 a month: two full readings and unlimited follow-ups. Cancel any time — there is no contract, and cancelling does not delete your records.A single reading is $125, any time, with a follow-up question or two included. Each one stands on its own.Vespera opens by invitation. There is nothing to buy on this page — leave your name, and an invitation follows when a place opens.
